Another Speed Paint

Happy Holidays all, hope its been a good one. Just thought I'd throw up another speed paint I did the other day. It's from a film version of Macbeth from the 70's, not sure of the director though. Done in 45 min or thereabouts.

Haven't posted anything lately, here's a 1hr speed paint from not too long ago. Painted from a film screencap. "Doomsday" is the film, if anyone is curious. Definitely going to keep doing more of these. I learn more with every one I do.

So, this is a short animated film I participated in with a bunch of other SJSU students a couple summers ago. I helped animate some scenes, and it was definitely a valuable learning experience. The film received a lot of positive feedback, which was awesome, and it even got into some student film festivals and won some stuff, yay!! I have to hand it to all the friends I worked on it with, we worked our butts off! Special thanks to Kimberly Knoll and YungHan Chang, who both conceived and directed the film. Thanks for letting me be part of it guys!

So this is an album cover I made for an upcoming EP by Stretford End, an LA based band my brother is part of. They're awesome guys and their music is fantastic, so I've been excited to be a part of it!

Hello again, been meaning to post these for a while now! First one is from Training Day, the second from a BBC show called Merlin, and then a paint of Heath Ledger's awesome Joker in the Dark Knight. Went a little overtime on some of these cuz I got so into it =P.

Hey there! Finally posting again, life got in the way of painting these past couple weeks. Anyway, here's some more paintings. The first is a shot from the Prestige, the landscape is from a personal picture. One hour each. All in all I felt like these past two were especially difficult for me, and there are a lot of things I wish I captured more successfully in the time allotted for each. In any case, on to the next painting!!

So this one's done from a screenshot of Road to Perdition. If you haven't seen the movie you should definitely check it out! This one was challenging for me to get the shapes and colors, so I mostly tried to focus on those elements. More paints on the way very soon!

A painting from my Viz Dev class this past semester and some related crocodile studies from a plastic toy. Our assignment was to take an animal and design a way it could help a human do a job. In my case, I made an alligator mount that is trained to help rescue people from boat accidents in the Everglades. Definitely learned a lot on this project.

Gawain Moment Piece

So this is my moment piece for the Gawain project. There are some issues that still need some ironing out, but overall I'm pleased with the way it turned out and I definitely learned a lot. I'm still conquering the learning curve of photoshop painting though. I plan on going back and reworking it. Comments?

Isometricity

Another bit of work from Mr. Brand's class. This is an isometric environment design from the Gawain project. The idea was that a character would enter from the cliff area, make his way to the tree/cave, and then find and blow this mystical horn to summon the character that lives in the tree. This was definitely a challenge for me and revealed some artistic weakness I still need to work on. I still enjoyed making this piece but definitely want to go back in and work out my values better. Enjoy!

Viz Dev (In Progress)

So I'm really enjoying my viz dev class this semester. Derek Brand is doing an awesome job of teaching the class. These are some examples of what I've been doing in his class so far. We're doing a project based off of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, but interpreted through the filter of either vikings, samurai, or prohibition gangsters. I chose vikings. These are a couple character designs I worked on recently, plus a prop design. The values are still kind of muddy though, I really want to go back and rework them, among many other changes. A re-post with the improved version is pending =P. Constructive criticism, anyone?

I'm back!! I've been away from this blog for far, far too long. I will be updating as often as I possibly can from now on! Time to breathe some life back into this thing =D. Anyway, this is a figure painting in oils that I did over winter break. It's still got some issues that need work but, overall, I'm pretty happy with it. Constructive criticism is, as always, appreciated.
